Providing therapy services in Minneapolis & St. Paul.
I work from a systems perspective, meaning it is my belief that behavioral and emotional responses seen in people are informed by their experiences and attachments in the system (home or family) they are raised in. I believe people are doing their best to cope.
As an eclectic therapist, I pull from different approaches informed by various theories as I tailor my therapy to each individual.
Pulling ideas from Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and often teaching mindfulness and relaxation skills, provides an experience in therapy that is unique to each client as no two people or situations are the same. Occasionally I use books, workbooks, mindfulness exercises, play therapy techniques such as toys and art, and other therapy tools.
Therapy is a relationship and I find that the quality of the relationship between therapist and client is the greatest determining factor in the success of the therapy. I value each therapeutic relationship I'm privileged to have.
I am honest. I use humor in my work. I am patient. I aim to be non-judgmental and accepting. I’m a good listener. I am willing to be confrontational while at the same time carefully paying attention to see when validation is all someone may need. I sometimes give therapy homework.
