What concerns are you able to address in therapy with my child/adolescent?

  1. Behavioral concerns: Any concerns you may have about behavior including but not limited to defiance, disobedience, inappropriate behavior, self-harming or suicidal behaviors, or anything that to you seems out of the ordinary such as struggles with personal hygiene, sleeping, or eating practices.

  2. Emotional concerns: If you wonder if your child may be overly anxious, angry, obsessive, self-conscious, fearful, depressed, or suicidal. If you’ve noticed a shift in mood and your attempts to work with your child on this are not creating change. Any concerns you have related to regulating emotions, tolerating distressing situations or relating interpersonally.

  3. Trauma: If your child has experienced abuse, neglect or another traumatizing experience and needs a place other than home to share, grieve and learn skills for managing this distress.

  4. Relationship concerns: Problems in relating with family, friends, authority figures of any kind, as well as in intimate relationships. Concerns about violence or control being used in relationships.

  5. Divorce/separation: Working with families as parents separate and/or divorce, providing support and ideas for both parents and children to help the family adjust to this change.

  6. Gender/Sexuality: Concerns related to gender identity, confusion about sexual issues, experiences or preferences.

  7. School concerns: Issues related to bullying, social involvements, academic performance, attention or concentration.

  8. Goals: Confusion about future goals and/or current decision making as it relates to the future.

  9. Grief and loss: Dealing with the death of a loved one or pet.

  10. Adoption/Foster care: Any issues related to adoption and/or foster care involvement (current or past). Any concerns about attachment between child/adolescent and primary caregiver.

  11. Diagnosis clarification: Education and support regarding a specific diagnosis or mental health issue your child/adolescent is attempting to deal with emotionally and behaviorally.

  12. Professional advice: I will be able to determine whether your concerns should be addressed through testing or could be better served by a specialist and make appropriate referrals for you.
